MA #1 Reflection
This assignment was unlike any other essay I had ever written; the closest piece would be when I wrote my admission essay for college applications. But that was only because I was able to use the word "I" and talk about my experiences. I've never dug deep into my literacy development and connected it with the articles that we read in class. Also, I enjoyed the visual elements of this assignment. Being able to include pictures helped break up the essay into different pieces. When I first read the instructions, I was confused about what the professor was asking for, but all I had to do was reread the directions, and I understood what the assignment was for. While I was writing this essay, I felt the words flow through my head to the tips of my fingers when I was writing my introduction and about my personal experiences with literacy development. But once I had to connect my example to the articles, I started to regret what I had chosen for my example because I was struggling to find a clear connection. Nevertheless, I found a connection between the two and was able to express what I was thinking in the essay. This assignment was the first multimodal essay that I have written, but I have had some experience with poster assignments in high school classes. Those previous assignments focused more on the visual aspect rather than the typical writing aspect. After receiving my peer review, I was able to make a lot of helpful changes. The main suggestion was to focus the essay on MY literacy development, rather than explaining my example and going into too much detail on the things that weren't a part of the assignement. Another suggestion I received was the change in tone that the reader noticed, the first half of my writing was more casual than the second half, so I decided to reword the second half to make it fit into the tone that the essay began with.
